Butterflies are wonderful creatures. Here the motley Urticaria sat on a flower. Of course, you immediately begin to sneak up on her. Try to cover it with something. And if you succeed, take the butterfly by the wings, touch the antennae, the proboscis coiled in a spiral. And then you throw it - what do you need it for?
But the butterfly can no longer fly, it somehow glides down obliquely and helplessly beats on the ground. Its velvety bright wings are frayed, the pattern is erased, the base of the wing, transparent as mica, is visible ... The butterfly is doomed to death.
It is much more interesting to watch butterflies without damaging them. After all, this is an insect with a "complete transformation." In a cockroach, for example, or in a grasshopper, a tiny cockroach or grasshopper immediately comes out of the egg. But the caterpillar, from which the butterfly will turn out, is completely unlike it. I can’t even believe that such a “worm” will make a beauty with silky wings.
You can easily bring out a butterfly yourself. Gather the caterpillars, but be sure to capture the plant you have them on found, - whimsical caterpillars will not eat other leaves and will die. Place them in a jar or box, but don't forget they need air too: tie the jar with cheesecloth or punch small holes in the lid of the box.
The leaves, of course, need to be laid fresh, and you will have to clean up after the caterpillars. After all, they need to grow, they eat almost continuously and sometimes eat more in a day than they weigh themselves.
When you notice that the caterpillars have become somewhat lazy, do not think that they are sick. This is preparing the first miraculous transformation. How it happens is very difficult to follow. Only one morning you will see motionless pupae dressed in chitin instead of caterpillars.
Many pupae look like butterfly mummies - folded legs, antennae pressed to the body. And other pupae do not look like a caterpillar or a butterfly - everything is covered in spikes and outgrowths.
The pupae do not eat or move. And yet a second transformation takes place in them: the flight of a butterfly is preparing. If you're lucky, you'll see it with your own eyes.
Here the chrysalis moves. The chitinous cover bursts, and gradually the back, head, and legs appear from it. A transparent cover remains from the pupa, even the antennae shells remain. Butterfly crawls out. And where are the luxurious wings? Instead of them, there are still wet small shreds. But wait! In the air, they will soon straighten out, shine, sparkle with bright colors.
We have many different elegant butterflies in the meadows. Sit on the grass, follow them. And if you want to catch - try so that the wonderful subtlest creation of nature does not come out of your hands crippled.
