The wingspan reaches 8 cm. The color is very variable, but most of all it looks like pine bark, for which it got its name. On the front wings there is a wide red-brown stripe and 2 semi-lunar white spots. After 2-3 weeks, caterpillars appear that gnaw on young needles.<\/p>\n<p>The caterpillar reaches 8 cm in length, has a variable color - from brown to gray, has small dark blue stripes. In autumn, the caterpillars go for wintering, climbing into the coniferous cover or digging into the ground and curling up. In spring, they climb trees and eat old needles.<\/p>\n<p><i>Pine cocoon<\/i>\u00a0dry-loving species\u00a0<i>butterflies<\/i>therefore, their mass breeding centers usually appear in dry pine forests or on elevated places on poor soils or sands and usually lasts 7-8 years.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>A fairly large butterfly, especially compared to its counterparts (Siberian and ringed cocoonworms).
