Fathead (Hesperiidae)

Diurnal fathead butterfly of the family Hesperiidae. It got its name for its unusual physique. The fathead is small in size with a thick brown-yellow body, its wings are small (with a span of 26-32 mm), and the head is thick and wide. It looks very much like a wasp.

 

The butterfly flies from the end of July to August and is found in meadows. During the flight reminds night butterfly (does not flutter).

Fathead caterpillars are short, narrowed in front and behind, covered with small hairs, with a round black head. They have a light gray color with an admixture of red. They live from May to June on various grasses. They usually live between the leaves of plants, wrapped in a web, where they pupate.
