The scientific name (Riodinidae), diurnal butterfly, belongs to the Nymphalidae family. The butterfly was called a checkerboard for a special pattern on the wings - it resembles a checkerboard in terms of red spots and black stripes. The length of the wings is about 5 cm.

Most butterflies produce only one generation during the summer, which winters as a larva. In warm regions, the checkered butterfly can give 2 generations per year. During the summer, she makes several clutches of 200 larvae. In winter (or summer, when it is very hot), the caterpillars stop feeding and go to bed until early spring.
The butterfly spends most of its life as a black caterpillar with spikes. A beautiful butterfly lives only a few weeks. Butterflies are common in Europe, Asia and North America. Read more about the order Lepidoptera.
