Diurnal butterfly from the Nymphalidae family. Nigella Yenisei is at the stage of extinction, its populations are becoming rarer. The butterfly got its name for its dark color. The wings of the Nigella are dark brown in color with graceful eyes.
Extract from classification. However, males do not have eyes. The front wing of the butterfly is up to 25 mm. Nigella lives in the expanses of Siberia, loves quiet dark forests and reluctantly appears in open areas.
The coffee nigella (Erebia ligea) has one generation and flies from mid-July to mid-August in even years. It differs from its relatives in smaller size (20-24 mm) and blurred pattern.
The number of eyes varies from 2 to 5 on the front ones. wings and 3 to 4 on the back. The eyes may have blue or white cores. The caterpillars are yellow-gray in color, and on the head there are two white transverse stripes. The black caterpillar hibernates, and sometimes twice.
